Hand and Wrist

Conditions We Treat

We depend upon our hands for all of our everyday activities, whether we’re getting dressed, cooking, driving, working, or playing. When we experience wrist or hand pain, stiffness, swelling, weakness, numbness, or clumsiness, these are all signs of a health problem that requires medical attention to improve the quality of our lives. Our practice diagnoses and treats many hand and wrist related conditions without the need for surgery, including the following:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compression disorders
  • Trigger fingers and trigger thumb
  • Tendonitis, including de Quervain’s disease
  • Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis of the wrist and fingers
  • Ganglion cysts

Diagnostic Tests

Many hand and wrist related conditions affect the soft tissues, such as tendons, ligaments, joint capsules, and nerves. While x-rays  identify conditions related to bones, they are not the imaging modality of choice for soft tissue conditions. When numbness, tingling, or weakness are present, this typically is due to a nerve disorder, which requires specialized diagnostic testing to confirm. Our office based diagnostic equipment provides Dr. Kahn with the information he needs to make proper treatment recommendations for you.

  • Musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound (MSK-US)
  • Electrodiagnostic testing (EDX) including nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG)

When non-surgical treatment is an option, Dr. Kahn can perform a variety of office based procedures to treat wrist and hand related conditions. His usage of ultrasound guidance for needle placement during injection and aspiration procedures allows him to directly view the affected area being treated, improving outcomes and enhancing patient safety. These procedures include the following:

  • Carpal tunnel injections and other peripheral nerve block injections
  • Injection of tendon sheaths and trigger fingers
  • Aspiration of ganglion cysts
